Character Development
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart.” Colossians 3:23
Whay is character development?
Character Development at Amesbury CE Primary School is our commitment to fostering personal growth and positive values in every child. Through a curriculum grounded in our Christian ethos, we aim to nurture pupils’ moral, social, and emotional growth, empowering them to make principled decisions and contribute meaningfully to society. Our Character Development Curriculum encourages students to build resilience, empathy, and a sense of responsibility, supporting them to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
Intent
Our intent is to create a nurturing environment where children develop as well-rounded, compassionate individuals who are equipped with the values and skills needed for lifelong success. By focusing on virtues such as respect, honesty, courage, and kindness, we aim to instil a strong moral compass that guides pupils in all aspects of their lives. The Character Development Curriculum is woven into our school ethos, helping students to value themselves and others, understand the importance of community, and develop a sense of purpose.
Implementation
Character education is embedded across all areas of school life at Amesbury. Our teachers and staff model positive behaviours and values, ensuring students experience character development as a consistent part of their education. Through collective worship, class discussions, project-based learning, and extra-curricular activities, we provide pupils with a wide range of experiences that promote self-reflection and empathy. Additionally, partnerships with local community organisations allow students to put their learning into practice, strengthening their commitment to service and personal responsibility.
Impact
The impact of our Character Development Curriculum is evident in the confident, respectful, and considerate nature of our pupils. Students leave Amesbury CE Primary School with a strong foundation of values, social skills, and emotional intelligence, ready to make positive contributions in secondary school and beyond. Our commitment to character development supports children in becoming resilient, ethically minded individuals who not only achieve academically but also demonstrate kindness, leadership, and integrity in all that they do. Through continuous assessment and feedback, we ensure that the Character Development Curriculum effectively meets our pupils' needs and prepares them for a future in which they can lead fulfilling, responsible lives.
